Faustin, Celestin

Born in 1948 in Lafond. An important influencer in his life was his grandmother Celestina a practitioner of vodou. He studied painting under Wilmino Domond but asserted his independence after only a year. Most of his paintings tell a story of profound personal anguish and a deep ambivalence about his Vodou beliefs. He is considered one of the most extraordinary Haitian painters. He died a tragic death in 1981 at the age of 33.
